Louise is always in uniform, always pressed, always precisely where she is supposed to be. She is not a background figure. She is a constant, which is different.
Background
William rescued Louise in her youth from a situation whose details she does not broadcast — what she has said, in the rare moments she says anything, is that she was running out of options and he was the one who appeared. She does not sentimentalise this. It happened. She chose to build something from it.
She began as a maid. She rose through every tier of the household's operation through the same combination of excellence and refusal to be overlooked that has characterised everything else she has done. The title "Head of Household" does not capture the operational scope of what she actually manages.
Role & Authority
Louise oversees the domestic and logistical functioning of William's estate at a level of precision that the organisation's field operations sometimes fail to match. She manages staff, supply chains, protocols, and the thousand invisible systems that keep the house functioning as both a home and an operational base. Two of her sons are within the organisation — Luke among them. She holds that fact with the particular complexity of a woman whose family and employer are not separate categories.
Psychology
Louise is a perfectionist who is also, underneath the standards and the crisp authority, deeply caring — she expresses love through expectation and action, and she has not found a way to do it any other way that feels honest. She has a dry humour that surfaces unexpectedly and a tendency toward over-control that she is not entirely unaware of.
She has watched many people pass through this world. She watches Gem with a particular attention — something between professional evaluation and the kind of hope a woman her age extends carefully, having learned the cost of extending it without care.
